We’ll tackle the problems associated with this often complex topic through a structured, step-by-step approach, breaking everything down and presenting the learning in an easy-to-follow format. 

Delivered over four weeks via short, insightful videos, a downloadable workbook will accompany each module along with some bonus resources. What’s more, you’ll be able to join Sally and Sharon live each Friday, where they’ll answer your questions and some special guests'll join them.

WHAT TO EXPECT

The Unlocking Notation course goes live on Friday February 7th.

You'll be able to get ready for the month ahead, join the exclusive FaceBook group and meet your hosts Sally Cathcart and Sharon Mark-Teggart. 

Module 1

CREATING THE RIGHT CONDITIONS

Module 1 launches on Monday February 10th.

In it there are five videos during which you’ll discover how to create the right conditions for introducing notation musically and meaningfully to your beginner students.

A live workshop will be held on Friday February 14th at 12pm GMT.

Module 2

KEY PRINCIPLES FOR TEACHING RHYTHM READING

Module 2 goes live on Monday February 17th.

The focus is on helping you to develop a set of tools for teaching rhythm notation reliably. You’ll discover why counting is so hard and what to do instead!

A live workshop will be held on Friday February 21st at 12pm GMT.

Module 3

KEY PRINCIPLES FOR TEACHING PITCH READING

Module 3 launches on Monday February 24.

Some of the myths surrounding teaching pitch reading will be debunked, and Sally will take you through, step-by-step alternative approaches and systems that really work. 

A live workshop will be held on Friday February 28th at 12pm GMT.

Module 4

ENSURING PROGRESSION AND TROUBLESHOOTING

The fourth and final module launches on Monday March 3rd.

It will help you integrate learning to read notation fluently as well as identifying common problems and some solutions.

A live workshop will be held on Friday March 7th at 10am GMT.

Sharon has over 25 years experience as a reflective practitioner in music education. She is well-known worldwide as a highly experienced piano pedagogue, contributing extensively to literature and resources. Sharon also specialises in creating and delivering courses for piano teachers, helping hundreds of piano teachers successfully gain accredited piano teaching diplomas since 2012.
